SOOOOO.
I had a dream involving me and a gorgeous Mike Pelfrey last night. BEST DREAM EVER?
In other news: Patriotism. Does the flag give you feelings of liberty and justice for all? Or does it just give you the willies? I see the flag and think "Oh, what a nice flag that is. Square and colorful and STRIPES YAY." I do NOT see the flag and think "MY WHAT A WONDERFUL COUNTRY WE HAVE HERE." I think patriotism can be construed in many ways and me not getting a warm/fuzzy feeling from red-white-blue doesn't mean I don't respect the inner doings of our country...
For example: I support the troops. Really, I do. I do not support the war, persay, but I do support the troops. But I didn't wave a mini-flag on Memorial Day. I didn't NOT wave it because I don't care about current and past troops; I didn't wave it because the flag is just a colored piece of fabric to me. But I did think about the troops and think about veterans and thank them in my own little way for doing what they do. So am I un-patriotic because the flag gives me the heebie-jeebies?
Discuss plz. (Don, this means you).

uhmm...
Well... it must just be my mood today, but I really don't have a problem with this one. I don't expect everyone to go out and wave their flags on Memorial day... or hell... Veterans day, Ehh... maybe the fourth of july I'd be upset about, but even then who cares... most people are happy they have a day off and get to see fireworks. Those who are out there with their flags that aren't children on the fourth of july, I usually see in a jean jacket with a giant pot leaf on the back, usually with a beard that smells of a mix of almonds and body odor that are too stoned to figure out that they were lucky enough to pick up the American Flag. (Yes Amanda... you know the hippy I'm talking about)
I digress... I don't wave my mini-flag either, mostly because most fourth of july's I have a bass guitar in my hands. But to me, I really think that those holidays run deeper than I can fathom anyways. I feel like my input is of little value, You know... the whole band of brothers thing. A holiday to give soldiers and excuse to go out and talk about their experiences in the military over a beer. I don't think there is anything you can say that would scrape the surface of what those soldiers/former soldiers went through/are going through their heads on that day, or affect the way they feel about that day, or those feelings. Grateful or ungrateful. I simply think the holiday only applies to those with the experiences. I'm not saying to recognize in your own way, I'm just saying that there is a whole different level for people with Military experience on Veterans/Memorial day, or even family members/friends of those people who lost someone.
...besides... mini-flag waving is for parades. So do I think that you're un-patriotic because you don't celebrate veterans day? No. I don't expect you to lock yourself in a hole and go into remorse thinking about the deceased, or the soldiers at war currently either. Unrealistic, and i'm not even sure it's even idealistic actually.
I think it's a little unpatriotic that you are creeped out by the American flag... being that it's a symbol of something much more complex and intricate than cloth and stitched thread it's made of. So in your lifetime there has been more bad than good (in your opinion, subjective at that). I don't think you can put 2(3?) years into the grand scope of what this country has done since it's creation...
One of the most obvious being that we're not speaking German right now. Sure it was a war situation, but I'm sure there are countless other things that were non-war related that we could bring up as well (I just currently lack the resources at work to bring them forth).
To say that you're unpatriotic because you don't celebrate holidays that commemorate the military is a little rough (in my opinion), to say that you're creeped out by our flag is more of an offense to me.
I could go on, but I'm running out of time on my lunch break.. maybe I'll make a post, maybe not. You didn't hit the right(/wrong?) nerve on this one.
